Abstract
668,529. Printing-machines; feeding webs. DUNGLER, J. Aug. 4, 1948 [Aug. 11, 1947], No. 20600/48. Classes 100 (i) and 100 (ii). [Also in Group XXX] In a machine for printing web material such as cloth or paper the web is carried by and caused to adhere to a transversely and longitudinally guided flexible but inextensible support attached to rollers' running on laterally adjustable guides whereby it may be tensioned transversely. As shown in Fig. 1 cloth from a trolley 13 passes through a bar tensioner 14 and selvedge guides 15 to a pasting roll 26; thence it is applied to an endless band 18 whose lower run passes between the hydraulically, mechanically or magnetically loaded impression cylinders 5 and the engraved printing cylinders 6 of printing couples 4, 3, 2; the cloth and the band 18 are then separated, the cloth being drawn through a drier B by a device 33 and passed by a folder 34 to a trolley 35, and the band 18 being cleaned and dried by a device 25. Each printing couple 2, 3, 4 may be adjusted transversely and longitudinally by means 7, 8 individually coupled to a continuously driven pulley 9 under control of push buttons 23a within reach of an operator inspecting the printed cloth as it emerges. A drier with blowing nozzles similar to B, or with electric or gas lamps or infra-red heaters may be placed immediately after each couple 4, 3, 2; in other forms printing couples are additionally or alternatively arranged on the upper run of the band 18, the printing cylinders 6 either being indirectly inked instead of themselves dipping into colour troughs 6a as shown, or being replaced by internally-inked screen cylinders; Fig. 9 shows printing cylinders 50, 49 coacting with common impression cylinders 48 of diameter equal or not to that of the end rolls of the band 18. The paste may be applied to the band 18 instead of to the cloth. Feeding webs.-The band 18, e.g. of metal covered with rubberized fabric or of thick cloth impregnated with rubber or with a syntheticresinous material, is driven by a fixed-pivot roller 20, longitudinally tensioned by a roller 19 whose bearings are adjustable in slides 24, and laterally tensioned by the means shown in Fig. 4 comprising endless chains 37 clamped by jaws 36 to both edges of the band, passing over sprockets on the shafts of the rollers 19, 20, and having vertical rollers 38 and horizontal rollers 39 running on rails 40, 41 of which one pair is mounted on projections 51, 51<SP>1</SP> threaded onto shafts 52, 52<SP>1</SP> rotatable by interconnected worm gearing. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an equalizing tenter replacing the lateral tensioning device of the band 18. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
