[Class 100 (ii)] In apparatus for stencil printing a continuous strip of textile or other material fed stepwise longitudinally over a printing table, there is arranged laterally of the strip a stencil magazine from which stencils may be moved transversely of the direction of the strip to reach printing position, the strip being deflected adjacent one of the transverse edges of the table so that an operator can work closely adjacent said edge to apply printing colour by means of a longitudinally moving device, which thus in the case of textile materials moves in the warp direction thereof. The material is unwound from a roll 1 and is gripped by an intermittently driven endless web 5 to be fed stepwise over a glass table 6. Stencils 12 are held in frames 11 placed above each other in magazines 10 on either side of the table, hoisting means being provided to raise a required stencil to the level of rails extending laterally over the tables, on which rails the frames are moved on rollers 13 into operative position. Colour is applied by means of a squeegee by an operator on a platform 4, in the warp direction of the material, whereafter the stencil is transferred to the opposite magazine. The material is dried by heating elements 7 and then moved the width of a stencil in readiness for the next operation, and is then further dried by heaters 8, passing thereafter into a drying compartment 16 having a heater 17, and thence to a winding-up roller 18. The colouring may be done by mechanical means, and the material may be textile fabric, wallpaper or the like.
