Angular bending.-In a three roll machine for bending metal plates to form pipes &c., the bearing 2 for an end of the upper roll 6 has a standard 3 extending downwardly from the bottom thereof which is narrow enough to allow removal of the pipe lengthwise therefrom when the pipe is arranged with the gap between the edges at the bottom. Similar bearings 2, 2<a> and standards at both ends of the machine may be used except that the inner edge of upper end of the standard 3 is bevelled at 16. The bearings and standards are vertically adjustable either simultaneously or independently within pairs of plates 13, 13<a> connected together bv tie rods 15 so as to facilitate removal of the pipe, to adjust the rolls to plates of different thickness, or to cant the upper roll when bending plates of varying thickness or hardness. The adjustment is effected by screwed bosses 18 at the ends of the standards which engage screws traversed in nuts secured in worm wheels 22, driven by worms on a shaft 24, which is rotated either by a pulley and reversing bevel or by handoperated bevel gear. The shaft 24 is in two parts connected by a clutch 28 so that the parts may be rotated simultaneously or independently. The standards are adjustable in slots in or between pairs of members 8, which are secured to the plates 13, 13<a>, form bearings for the lower rolls 9, 10, and are provided with inclined recesses 11, so as to reduce the amount of adjustment required to enable the pipe to be removed. The top of the plates 13, 13a may be similarly recessed. The lower rolls are driven from a long shaft 33, driven by spur gear 39, 38 from the shaft 41. The shaft 33 passes under the rolls and under a workdelivery table 31, Fig. 4, and is connected at one end by gear 42, 43 to a shalt 32 which is coupled at 36 to the shaft of the roll 10. The shaft 33 at its other end carries a pinion 42 driving a wheel 43a on the shaft of the roll 9. The rolls 9, 10 are supported in the centre by idle rolls 48 supported by brackets 49. The standards may operate a pointer over a graduated scale so as to show the position of the upper roll.
