Direct connections between conductors. - A conductor is connected to a carbon electrode &c. by coating the latter electrolytically with zinc or similar metal and soldering the conductor thereto. The zinc &c. may be given a protective coating of paraffin, rubber &c. which is removed before the soldering process. Tin or tin solder may be melted and applied to the zinc coating, and the adhesion of the zinc to the carbon may be increased by roughening the surface of the latter by grinding, or by using a fractured surface.
