Abstract
311,791. Seddon, A. Jan 14, 1928. Packeting pins; unpacking.-Pins assembled in rows in pierced ridges a<1>, a<2> formed in lengths of paper A, are stored in a box E and delivered so that a row at a time is presented for convenient grasping by a roller D mounted in a cover F hinged above the box E, the end of the paper being passed over a bridge piece or roller B and inserted in a slot d<2> in the roller D. As the roller D is rotated the pins are drawn past a transversely-disposed guide C which maintains the rows of pins P in a plane parallel with the plane of the paper until the paper is drawn laterally away from the pins over the roller B where the perforations at the heads of a row of pins are burst and the heads of the pins presented for use through a slot f<3> in the cover F; the points of the pins rest on the ledge or shelf c<1> of the guide C. As shown the guide C is formed from a part of the hinged cover F and the roller B is journaled in ears b<1> integral with the guide : a spring plate d<4> bears against the roller D to maintain the paper taut as it is wound thereon. A tray g<1> may be provided for loose pins in a part G, hinged to the cover F. In a modification the box and part housing the roller D &c. are in one piece, the roller being held in slots therein by a hinged cover and the guide and ledge are pressed cut of the material of the box. The perforations in the paper may be disposed close to the edge of the ridge so that they may be easily burst in which case unperforated intervals in the paper may be of greater pitch than usual so as to preserve the longitudinal tensile strength of the paper. The pins may be arranged in the ridges so that the heads project above the upper ridge as distance equal to one half or one third of the length of the pins and in this case, the upper ridges need not be burst and the feed movement is arrested when the upper ridge reaches the roller B.
