Description

Jan. 6, 1931. H. c. TRAUTE COMBINED MATCH BOOK AND GOLF TEE HOLDER Filed Aug. 13, 1929 C TTDCLU/fe To'ef/ @MM Herwf/ Patented Jan. 6, 1931 UNITEc :STATES HENRY C. TRAUTE, OF MONMOUTHBEACH, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNORTO THE DIAMOND MATCH COMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS 5 COMBINED MATcHVBooK AND GOLF TEE HOLDER Application lfiled August 1 3, 1929.,v Serial No. 385,522.
This invention relates to combined match book andgolf tee'holder; my object being to provide a simple, compact and efficient device wherein a cellular receptacle is associated with the foldable cover of a match book 1n such relation thereto that the shanks of golf` tees are easily insertable in the receptacle in alternate order from opposite edges ofthe cover, and that the enlarged heads ofthe 1nserted tees overlie the opposing surface of vthe cover and beari forcibly thereagainst,
thereby frictionally holding fthe shanks of the teeswithin the receptacle until the tees are severally withdrawn for use, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
Inthe drawings--` Figurel is a'rear elevation, partly in section, of 'a match book and golf tee holder embodying my invention. Y e
Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the device, ason the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the same.
Fig. is a perspective view of the device. Referring lto the drawings, A designates al -f match book' of 7any usual or approved constructiomthe samel in the present'instancc comprising a flexible pasteboard cover 5 and card matches 6 whereof the uncut base portions 7 are embraced by and securedto a short fold 8 at one end of the body of the cover.
According to my invention I secure, by gluing for example, on the outerside of the cover body 9 a cellular receptacle B for golf tees C, which receptacle is of rectangularv form and of less length and width than the cover body. This receptacle comprises preferably a strip 10 of corrugated pasteboard interposed between layers 11 of paper, or other suitable material, the whole being surrounded by a paper wrapping 12, thereby providing a plurality of parallel cells, whereof eachA is designed and proportioned to receive the shank of a tee. The cellular receptacle is so positioned on the cover that the cells extend transversely of the latter with their gitudinal'edges of the cover,
tee. Hence when the shank of a tee is inserted'in anyof the cells the beveled-head of the tee overlies lthe opposing surface kof the cover and bears forcibly thereagainst, thereby frictionally clamping the shank against the wall of the cell and retaining the `tee securely in place until it is withdrawn for use.
As the receptacleB is spaced from the 10n- K e the golf tees are insertable in the'cells in alternate order from opposite edges of the cover, thus ensuring the compact assembly and retention of two rows of tees, as shown, andat the same time eX-' posing the heads of the tees to permit the easy and convenient withdrawal of each individual tee. n
A convenient score card may be printed upon the flap of the match book cover, kif desired. y p
I claim- Y y1. A deviceof the character described consisting in the combination with a fiexible match book cover, of a golf tee holder attached to the outer surface of said cover. said teeholder having a plurality of parallelI cells extending transversely of the cover and being y spaced at their open ends from the respective longitudinal edges of the cover, whereby the Shanks of the tees are insertable in the cells Y open ends spacedfrom the adjacent edges of in alternate order from opposite edges of the cover in such manner that the heads of said tees will overlie the opposing surface of the cover and bear forcibly thereagainst, thus frictionally clamping the shauks of the tees within the respective cells.
2. A device of the `character described consisting in the combination with a flexible s match book cover, of a golf tee holder at- Vtached to the outer surface of the cover, said holder .including a strip of corrugated material and providing a plurality of parallel cells extending transversely of the cover and 2 5 t f i f 1,788,177
being spaced at their `openends from the respective longitudinal edges of the cover, whereby the Shanks of the tees are nsertable in the cells in alternate order from opposite 5 edges of the cover in such manner that the heads of saidtees Will overlie the opposing surface of the cover and bear forcibly there against, thus frictionally clamping the Shanks of the tees Withinthe respective calls.
10 Signed at NewrYvork, inthe county and Y Staterf New lYrlnthis 12thday of August, Y A.D.1'929'.
