Abstract

311,644. Buchanan, T. Dec. 1, 1928. By solid lubricant. - A device for emergency lubrication and indication of the overheating o f bearings comprises a metal container 1 screwed into a bearing 2 and communicating with the bearing by a duct 3. The container has a plug 4 of odoriferous material and is sealed by a plug 5 of solid lubricant which is melted when the bearing becomes overheated. The plugs are kept in position by a cap 6 which may be a perforated plate or a fusible metal plug. Suitable means such as a spring may be employed for assisting the initial discharge of lubricant.
