Abstract
310,972. Merturi, G. Jakova-. May 4, 1928, [Convention date]. Chemical manufacture, f u r n a c e s for; sulphur burners.-An apparatus for preparing carbon bisulphide, flowers of sulphur or roll sulphur consists of a chamber 1 divided by partitions 2<1> into compartments 4, 5, 6, and heated by gases of combustion admitted through openings 13, 14, 15 and exhausted through a flue 23. The compartments contain superposed retorts 3 - - 12. In preparing carbon bisulphide, sulphur or sulphur ore is charged into the retorts 9, 10, and the sulphur vapours are led into the retorts 7, 8, which contain brown or other coal which may have been distilled in an atmosphere such as steam which does not support combustion, and which is contained in perforated liners 50, Fig. 2, having a perforated partition near the base below which the sulphur vapour is delivered. Carbon bisulphide is withdrawn by a pipe 49 to a condenser. If roll sulphur is to be obtained, sulphur vapours from the retorts 9, 10 are led into retorts 11, 12 which are maintained at a temperature of 130-140‹ C., and liquid sulphur is discharged from these retorts through openings at the base. If flowers of sulphur are to be obtained, all the retorts may be charged with sulphur or sulphur ores and the vapours are passed by pipe 33 into an upper chamber 34 leading to air or water-cooled cylinders 40, 41, 42. To obtain sulphur oxide air is admitted to the retorts 8 - - 12, and the products pass through the cylinders 40, 41, 42 to a collecting main 46.
