383,338. Gas-purifying processes. LENZE, F. and RETTENMAIER, A., 159A, Duisberger Strasse, Hamborn, Duisburg, Germany. Aug. 31, 1931, No. 24428. [Class 55 (ii).] Gas from coking plant is desulphurized by passage over metallic oxides, e.g. iron oxides or bog iron ore at below 100‹ C., e.g. at 0‹ C. and preferably at 35-50‹ C., the oxide being charged dry into the purifier and regenerated by free oxygen in the gas current, which is dry or not saturated with moisture. The heat of compression, e.g. to 2-5 or 10 atmospheres for long distance transmission may be utilized to raise it to a suitable temperature, or the purifiers may be heated. In order to prevent the formation of cracks in the oxide at least the edges are compressed. Sulphur is melted out at intervals from the mass, which is re-used. Specification 185,780, [Class 55 (ii), Gas manufacture &c.], is referred to.
