Abstract

310,747. Booth, J. B. S., and Lanston Monotype Corporation, Ltd, Oct. 29, 1928. Strip-perforating machines. -In means for spacing out characters by forming them on bodies wider than the normal, as described in Specification 30036/10, a graduated adjustable stop is provided for the line-measuring mechanism, and means is provided for coupling one or more additional punches to those forming the normal character signals. The graduated stop E, Figs. 1 and 4, which may have three steps in addition to a normal face e<3>, is interposed between the units-rack C and a fixed abutment X. The stop is adjusted by means of a rotatable disc F having three steps', anyone of which can be brought into the path of a sliding stud G connected to the stop E. When spaced composition is required, the stop E is drawn forwards by means of a sliding rod J provided with a knob J<1>, until the stud G encounters the disc F. The additional punches B, B' required to provide the extra mould dimensions are brought into action by an inclined surface on the rod J, which acts through a sliding bar K to insert two interponents between shoulders on the stems of the additional punches and the power-operated bar that returns the punches.
