Abstract

310,261. Polßk, J. Sept. 3, 1928. Pumps for molten materials; valves and valve seats, arrangements of.-A casting-machine, in which mould d can be applied to openings m in the wall of a cylinder a filled with molten metal and having one piston b to force the metal into the moulds and another c to cover or uncover the openings, is arranged so that the piston b can be withdrawn, as shown, to allow molten metal to be poured into the cylinder a. The piston b is operated by a fluid pressure cylinder k and the piston c, is depressed against the action of a spring f by the pressure of the metal, thus exposing the openings m. When the piston b has been returned to its highest position the piston c can be raised by lever g to eject the residue. In a modification the piston c, Fig. 2, has parts c<1> cut away and is rotated by a lever r to cover or uncover the openings m and is lifted to eject the residue by a crosshead i engaging a member o on the rod s of the piston c. The member o is shaped to pass freely through a hole t of the .crosshead i when the piston c closes the openings m. The bottom of the piston b may be shaped to correspond to the face of the bottom c in the open position. In both forms the molten metal cools to form a solid outer layer while in the cylinder a so that the pressure of the piston b has to force the molten interior through this solid layer into the moulds.
