Combined transmitting and receiving systems; duplex signalling.-In a two-way carrier wave system, transmitting by wire or radio, the same carrier wave is used in both directions. At the control station, the wave is generated and modulated, and the carrier and both side-bands. are transmitted, although the carrier may be partially suppressed. At the other station, the carrier is separated from the side-bands and after amplification is modulated for sending signals back to the control station. For the reverse transmission the carrier is suppressed and only one side-band is communicated, de-modulation being effected at the control station by combining the received side-band with the local carrier.
