Abstract

309,990. Skillman, N. April 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Bearings; compound forms.-A self-aligning bearing comprises a thin metallic spherical member 1 lined internally and externally with a fibrous material 2, 4 impregnated with lubricant and surrounded by a metallic member 3. The member 1 is formed from a tube in which a sheet of fibrous lining 2 is inserted, the tube and the lining 2 being then pressed to shape. The inner member is mounted on a member 7 and surrounded by a tube 3 and fibrous material 4 and the tube 3 is then pressed between dies to spherical shape. The central part of the tube is distorted at 6 to hold a plate 5 in position. The act of pressing the tube 3 also compresses the lining 4. The central plate 5 may be omitted as shown in Fig. 6.
