Abstract

<PICT:0562475/IV/1> A roller bearing comprises rollers produced by cutting lengths from a rod of a synthetic plastic material, which rod has been moulded or extruded under heat and pressure. The inner and outer races, and the cages for the rollers, may also be made of a synthetic plastic material. The synthetic plastic material may be given a surface treatment, e.g. with oil, varnish or metal, to exclude moisture, and may contain fillers, e.g. wood flour, asbestos, slate dust, mica, graphite, paper, fabric and metallic or non-metallic fibrous materials. Fig. 1 shows a bearing comprising rollers 1, cut from lengths of a moulded rod of a synthetic plastic material, mounted between a bronze inner race 2 and an outer race 3 moulded or machined from a plastic, and maintained in position by metal end flanges 5. The race 3 is made spherical externally so that it may form part of a self-aligning bearing.
