Abstract
309,583. Selden Co., (Assignees of Jaeger, A. O.). April 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Ammonia, catalytic oxidation of. - Impure ammonia such as coal tar ammonia is mixed with oxygen and passed over one or more catalysts so that the impurities are burned out and the ammonia is oxidized either in separate stages or in a single stage. At least one of the contact masses comprises a diluted and preferably stabilized multicomponent zeolite as described in Specification 279,466. The catalytically active element may be present in chemical combination in the zeolite in exchangeable or non-exchangeable form or may be present in the form of a diluent. In an example of a two-stage process the impurities are first oxidized at 400-450‹ C. and the ammonia is then oxidized at 650-800‹ C. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) is not confined to the treatment of impure ammonia but describes broadly the oxidation of ammonia using multicomponent zeolites as catalysts. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
