Description
Process for the oxidation of nitrogen compounds. It is known, that the absorption of the nitrogen compounds important in sulfuric acid operation Sulfuric acid 'only in that for the rational implementation of the sulfuric acid process necessary time and feasible with economically appropriate facilities is when the volumes in which NO and VO. are present in gases, roughly in proportion i: i stand. Since the nitrogen compounds are now initially present as NO, so the task arises to undertake the absorption if by partial oxidation of NO to NO. a ratio of NO to NO .., of approximately i: i is reached. It is also known that as soon as this ratio is exceeded noticeably, i. H. as soon as NO. is available in excess, the optimal absorption effect is lost. In order to oxidize the NO-containing gases, however, relatively large spaces are required, what is associated with considerable expenses.
It has now been shown that the reaction space required for oxidation can be reduced to an extremely low level when used as a reaction accelerator highly active, appropriately dried coal is used. The process can be carried out that the entire amount of gas is passed over the coal at a suitable temperature or but also so that a part of the amount of gas to be treated is branched off and up to almost complete conversion of the NO present in this gas part into NO. the accelerating Effect of the coal is exposed. The latter has the advantage that you can then NO. can add the untreated gas stream in the desired ratio, so that then certainly the optimum ratio desirable for absorption in sulfuric acid is achieved.
