Description

- .Process for oxidizing hydrogen sulfide. The question of manufacture of sulfur and sulphurous acid from hydrogen sulphide has especially in the economic importance at the present time. So far this has happened in the Way that hydrogen sulfide burns in the air or especially in gas mixtures (Coal gas) is passed over lawn iron ore. It has now turned out to be surprising Way shown that the oxidation of hydrogen sulfide to sulfur or sulfur oxides in the presence of air occurs already at 100 ° without fire phenomena - and that so complete that no odor of hydrogen sulfide is perceptible any more, if the mixture is passed over charcoal (charcoal, blood charcoal). The coal has before everyone Contact substances have the great advantage that they remain unchanged while z. B. the well-known. Medium lawn iron ore has to be renewed after some time, because it also changes chemically in part, e.g. B. converted into sulfur iron will. In addition, if sulfur is to be represented, it can be used without difficulty extract from the coal through carbon disulfide without the solution through the Coal becomes contaminated, while with lawn iron ore, even in solid pieces, always Ore sludge is also filled by the solvent. -.
