Vacuum tubes.-Heating and evacuation of a discharge device having a metal or part-metal container m which is permeable to gases at high temperatures is carried out in a vacuum chamber v. Separate evacuating pipes a<1>, a<2> may be used or the device and the chamber may be in connection with each other and evacuated as a whole. The chamber may be formed as an oven for heating the device which may also be heated by bombardment from the cathode.
