Abstract

309,028. Frisch, A. April 3, 1928, [Convention date]. Dynamometers.-A device for measuring pressure comprising a plunger movable on ball or roller bearings in a cylinder to displace a fluid to an extent dependent on the pressure applied to the plunger, means being provided for indicating the displacement of the fluid, is characterized in that the ball or roller bearings are mounted in grooves in the plunger or in the cylinder so as to project from the grooves sufficiently to minimize or prevent undue friction of the plunger on the cylinder walls whilst allowing the plunger to fit substantially closely within the cylinder. The plunger 1 working within the cylinder liner 2 is provided with annular grooves 3 containing balls 4 which prevent the plunger contacting with the cylinder walls and thus replace sliding friction by rolling friction. A load 6 placed on the plunger displaces the liquid 9 into a manometer 11 and displaces a scond liquid, for example, mercury, up a glass tube 13 provided with a graduated scale 14.
