Kinematograph apparatus. - The take-up spool is driven through a friction wheel and disc, the wheel being driven through a friction clutch and being controlled in position, so as to wind the film with a constant linear speed, by a lever carrying a roller engaging the film wound on the spool. As shown, a spindle a, driven by the projector, carries a sleeve d which rotates with it but is slidable thereon. A sleeve f, slidable and rotatable on the sleeve d, is pressed by a spring k so as to compress a free washer e of fibre &c. between flanges on the sleeves and form a friction clutch, the pressure being adjustable by means of a nut l. The sleeve f carries a friction wheel g engaging a plate p mounted on the shaft q carrying the take-up spool w, and is provided with pins o, o<1> engaging the ends of a fork n secured to a lever D pivoted at A and carrying a roller B engaging the film on the spool. The parts of the apparatus are designed so that the spool tends to wind the film at a linear speed slightly greater than that of the film through the projector. The plate p is automatically moved out of contact with the wheel g when the wound spool is being removed. For this purpose, the plate p is provided with a pin t passing through a slot in the shaft q and engaging a recess v in a rod s slidable within the shaft. The rod s is pressed by an adjustable spring x against a pivoted member r. When the member r is turned through a right angle, the spring pushes the rod s to the left, against the action of a spring z, thus moving the plate p.
