Cores, covering by winding.-In a machine for covering wires with yarn and the like the haul-off pulley by which the core is drawn through the covering head is driven by variable friction gear comprising a cup-like friction wheel b and a cone p co-operating with the inner surface thereof, the cone p being moved axially of the wheel b to vary the speed of the haul-off pulley by means of a screwed support f. The cone p is maintained in contact with the wheel b by the belt which passes around a pulley q carried by the cone p, the belt also passing around an adjustable jockey pulley r. Specification 131,461 is referred to.
