Abstract

307,516. Stubner, E. C. de. Aug. 30, 1927. Colouring plastic compositions.-Soluble cellulose derivatives which possess a fibrous cellular structure are coloured by precipitating a pigment upon them. For example, nitrocellulose is treated with solutions of lead acetate and potassium bichromate, resulting in the formation of lead chromate upon and within the nitrocellulose. In other examples (1) copper is precipitated by iron or zinc from copper sulphate; (2) lead sulphide is precipitated from lead acetate by hydrogen sulphide; (3) lampblack or zinc oxide is precipitated from a gaseous suspension by spraying this on or forcing it through the nitrocellulose. The product may be used in the manufacture of celluloid or artificial leather.
