Abstract

Composition for making coke.-Solid fuel is obtained bv a distillation process of the kind described in Specifications 276,407, 287,037, and 287,381, [all in Class 55 (i), Coking &c.]. in which the coal or the like is distilled in a con. trolled volume of heating gases whose magnitude is such as to lower the partial pressure of the volatilizable oils present so that these are driven off at temperatures below those at which they normally volatilize, and this fuel is blended with raw or distilled or partly distilled carbonaceous materials, including anthracite duff. When mixed with coking coal the tendency to melt or swell is reduced, and the tendency of the oil vapours given off to be cracked is lessened, when mixed with coke the ignitibility of the mixture is increased. The fuel may be briquetted with metallic ores such as iron and copper oxides.
