Abstract
307,090. Schultz, J. Oct. 4, 1927. Inking-apparatus.-Cleaning-apparatus for the inking- apparatus of a printing- press comprises an inkremoving scraper or wiper in combination with suction means for conveying away the removed ink. In one form, Figs. 2 and 3, a pair of scraper blades 26, 27 are adjustably secured to the opposite faces of a hollow bar 21 connected to a suction pipe 22, and pivoted by means of spindles 17 to blocks 13 vertically slidable in brackets 11 on - the fixed frame of a flat bed press, the blocks carrying rollers 14 engaging tracks 4 with inclined ends 5, 6 on the reciprocating bed 3 carrying the inking-table 9 and type forme 10. Springs 20 hold the bar on either side of the dead centre position resting against adjustable screws 16 and the position of the bar is reversed at each end of the stroke of the bed 3 by the engagement of fingers 7, 8 on the bed with lugs 29 on the bar. The inclined ends 5, 6 of the tracks 4 serve to .raise the scrapers prior to their angular movements and to prevent them engaging the type forme 10. The cleaning device may be held raised in an inoperative position by pins 13a engaging holes in the blocks 13. In a modification, Fig. 6, for use in cleaning rotating inking- rollers, a single blade 50 is secured to a suction bar 38 pivoted by studs 37 to brackets 34 and movable into the operative and inoperative positions by toggle levers operated by a handle 41. In a further form, Figs. 11, a rubber wiper 77 is clamped between a plate 75 and a member 59 carrying a suction pipe 61. The member 59 is pivoted to the frame 55 by studs 58 to one of which is secured an arm 78 having a hinged portion 82 provided with a handle 83. An adjustable screw 85 bearing on the portion 82 serves to vary the pressure of the wiper 77 on the inking- roller. The cleaning device may be held in the inoperative position by placing the portion 82 between fixed lugs 86 on the frame adapted to receive a locking pin 87. In another form, Fig. 18, applied to a flat-bed press, the suction device is separate from the wiper or scraper and is in the form of a suction trough 111 at one end of the reciprocating bed 106 connected by a flexible pipe 115 to a receptacle for the waste ink. The wiper 97 is carried by studs 94 mounted in bearings 92 and to one of the studs is secured a sleeve 101 having an arm 99 adapted to be engaged by fingers 109, 110 on the bed 106 to move the scraper into the inoperative and operative positions in which it is held by a spring plunger 102 carried by the sleeve 101 engaging recesses in a curved bracket 104a. An additional recess is provided to permit the arm 99 to be held in a position clear of both of the fingers 109, 110.
