Abstract

305,788. Hawkins & Co,. Ltd., L. G., and Hawkins, L. G. Jan. 12, 1928. Electric radiators.-An electric heating element 18 and a device 19 for producing ultra-violet rays are mounted on a common base 17 detachably carried by a reflector 11. The ultra-violet rays are produced by carbons 19 detachably held in metal blocks 24 by springs 25. One block is secured directly to the base 17 and the other is mounted on the pivoted armature of an electromagnet 28 arranged in series with the heating element and the carbons so that the arc is struck and maintained automatically. A partition or shield 36 causes automatic extinction of the arc when the carbons are nearly consumed. The heating element 18 screws into a metal contact socket 20a having a central contact engaging a contact on the element. The base is provided with a central contact bolt 15 and a screwed plug 14, encased in metal 16, and engaging a screwed socket 10 carried bv the reflector. The base is enclosed in covers 37, 38.
