Abstract
305,627. Chanard, A. Feb. 8, 1928, [Convention date]. Heating vehicles.-A suction device b is combined with the engine exhaust pipe a for producing a partial vacuum in a duct c which draws in air heated by contact with the exhaust manifold e, and such air duct c is arranged to pass through an air-heating chamber f into which air is admitted to be heated by contact with the duct and discharged into the vehicle. The inlet end of the air duct c may be enlarged so as to surround the exhaust manifold e as shown in Fig. 1, or the air inlet may pass through the exhaust manifold e as shown in Fig. 4. External air enters the chamber f through a device g and leaves it through apertures h. If desired, the pipe c and casing f may be disposed on or beneath the floor of the vehicle, the device g communicating by means of a tube with the casing f. The modification shown in Fig. 6 comprises an inlet k for the exhaust gases, a grating l, truncated conical tubes m leading into the mouths n of tubes o, and an inlet for the air duct c.
