Pulverulent-fuel burners.-To obtain an intimate mixture of fuel and air a multiple burner is employed, comprising a group of small burners functioning as a single burner, and each fed with a stream of pulverized fuel and conveying air from a common source and also with an independent supply of secondary air. In the burner shown, the fuel-air mixture is supplied by a pipe P to a chamber N and thence to the burner tubes B, the outlet ends of which are preferably provided with spiral vanes A. The tubes B pass through screwed glands F on the air casing J and are connected to screwed couplings L, so that they may be adjusted longitudinally by rotating them. Secondary air from the casing J is supplied to ducts C surrounding the burner tubes, and terminating in caps D with vanes D<1> giving the air a gyratory motion opposite to that of the mixture. The caps D are longitudinally adjustable by means of rods E. Means may be provided for regulating the amount of air supplied to each of the ducts C. As shown, a further supply of secondary air may take place through an annular trunk I surrounding the whole burner. The directions of the gyratory movements given to the mixture and secondary air in some of the burners may be opposite to those in the remainder. A stirrer 0, rotated by hand, mechanically, or by the mixture itself, is preferably provided in the fuel chamber N. Oil may be burnt in the central burner of the group shown, for lighting up purposes or in conjunction with the pulverulent fuel in the surrounding burners; or the central burner may be omitted.
