Abstract

303,731. Farnsworth, F. S. Oct. 8, 1927. Springs, arrangement of; equalizing load on wheels; guiding vertical play.-Relates to sixwheeled vehicles having four rear driving wheels independently mounted on radius arms pivoted by transverse axes to the main frame. The worm or other driving gear is enclosed in a casing 14 having tubular extensions 15 passing through sleeves 18, 19, 20, 21 supported in bearings 16 secured below the side frames, the sleeves each forming one member of a triangular framework carrying a road wheel. The other members consist of diagonal stays and longitudinal casings for the chain or other transmission between the wheel axles and transverse shafts in the tubular extensions 15. The weight of the vehicle is taken by inverted semi-elliptic springs 22 pivoted or fixed at their centres to brackets depending from the side frame. Rebound springs 25 connect upwardly projecting arms 28 on the triangular frames to brackets 27 on the main frame. In a modification, the gear box and triangular frames are carried by an auxiliary frame connected to transverse of the main frame by longitudinal trunnions. Specifications 8196/09, 12913/11, and 211,999 are referred to.
