Abstract

303,672. Diebold, P. Feb. 10, 1928. Washing-machines with rotary receptacles.- The clothes receptacle 9 is provided with a series of perforated deep depressions a and a series of shallower perforated depressions b alternating with the deep depressions. An overflow pipe, not shown, is provided whereby the level X of the washing-fluid in the casing 1 is not exceeded so that the clothes &c. may not be submerged in the washing-fluid. Washing is effected by the washing-fluid falling from the deep depressions on to the clothes &c. in the receptacle, the fluid being directed into these depressions by radial extensions c<1> of lifters c which are shaped so as to function in either direction of rotation of the receptacle. Lifters d having no radial extensions are provided to direct water &c. into the shallower depressions, from which it runs along the inner wall of the receptacle to clean it. The casing is supported by a stand that carries a horse-shoe shaped boiler 3 enclosing a hearth 4 or other heating means. Water may be passed to the casing by a pipe 7. The receptacle is supported at one end only, the other end being provided with an opening 12 which registers with an opening in the casing by which the receptacle is loaded or unloaded.
