Abstract

303,661. Ellis, G. B., (Merck, E., [Firm of]). Jan. 21, 1928. Small chambers; air, controlling pressure of.- Wax, fat, a fatty acid, &c. is introduced in a molten state between surfaces to be packed, in vacuum drying or distilling apparatus. The chamber a is mounted on a channel b carried by a fixed underframe c. Molten paraffin wax or like material is introduced into the channel and allowed to set and form the packing. A waterheated frame D carries trays or grates on its tubes d<1>, the trays containing material to be dried. The vapours evolved are cooled bv the jacket a<1> or by cooling pipes inside or outside the chamber, which prevent the melting of the packing. A receiver g for the condensed liquid is interposed in the vacuum tube which is led from the bottom of the chamber. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 105,647; and 146,127, [Class 1 (i), Chemical processes &c.].
