Abstract
1410800 Surface condensers STICHTING REACTOR CENTRUM NEDERLAND 12 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 57329/72 Heading F4S In a surface condenser comprising a vessel I in which a substance is condensed and separated in solid form out of a gas mixture, the gases are cooled in two stages, the first stage being disposed above the second stage and consisting of U-tubes 10 depending from an upper wall of the vessel, the vessel having an outlet 4 for condensed solid in liquid form after melting thereof. As shown, the second cooling stage consists of fins 12 projecting inwardly from the vessel wall, that portion of the wall from which the partitions project being encircled by a cooling coil 14. The entry temperature of the coolant for the coil 14 is preferably lower (e.g. - 800 C.) than that for the U-tubes 10 (e.g. -40‹ C.). The gas mixture enters at 2 and non-condensible gases are withdrawn at 3. When the shell space is sufficiently filled with the sublimated condensate the coolant is shut off and a heating fluid is circulated through a coil 15 to melt the sublimate so that it can be withdrawn as a liquid through the outlet 4.
