Coke-ovens. - In a coke - oven battery having longitudinal regenerators 18 and heating-walls 11, 12 connected in pairs by cross-over flues 24, a pair of sole flues 13, 15, connected each to one of the two adjacent heating-walls, is provided under alternate ovens, while the single sole flues 14, 22 beneath the remaining ovens are connected to both adjacent heating-walls. By this arrangement the pairs of heating-walls 11 and 12 operate concurrently for upflow or downflow. The flues 13, 15 cross one another at the middle of the length of the oven as described in the parent specification.
