Abstract

Lighting burners.- A preferably channelshaped shield disposed above a perforated tube burner for collecting and conveying outflowing gas so as to ensure ignition at all the outlets is adapted to be moved out of contact with the flames. In the form shown, a shield 5 and a balance weight 9 are carried by a rod 8, journaled in the walls of a heating chamber and provided with a handle 10. When the latter is depressed, a screen 14 is moved to expose a lighting-hole 13 and the shield 5 is brought over the burner 3. After ignition of the burner, the handle is released and the screen 5 is moved bv the weight 9 into the normal position out of contact with the flames. In a second form, the shield is adapted to be moved gradually away from the burner during the opening of the gas-valve. In a third form, one part of a shield is provided with holes through which the burner flames project, a second part having corresponding holes being adapted to be moved over the first so as to bring the holes into register when the gas-valve is in the open position.
