Open-tray and pulverulent-fuel burners. - Liquid or powdered fuel is supplied to a rotating annular burner cup a by a pump e through a hollow spindle b on which the cup is mounted and a pipe f. Air is supplied through a valvecontrolled branch g, part being directed by nozzles h on to the fuel in the cup and the remainder being directed by nozzles i on to the flame. The spindle b is rotated by an electric motor c. The fuel is distributed and held in the cup by centrifugal force and, on gasification, mixes with the air currents from the nozzles h. Gasification of the fuel is facilitated by the hotter fuel particles becoming separated from the colder fuel particles owing to their lower specific gravity and being brought to the inner surface of the fuel in the cup. Fuel overflowing from the burner is caught in a shield k and returned to the fuel tank. In a modification, the cup is formed with fan blades for inducing the air supply.
