Abstract

299,797. Levy, L. A., and West, D. W. July 1, 1927. Pigments,. luminous compositions. -- Phosphorescent and fluorescent zinc sulphide or zinc cadmium sulphide for as pigments are treated after firing with a solution of alkali metal phosphate or carbonate or borax and the solvent is evaporated. Tri-sodium plosphate is preferred but other sodium or potassium phosphates may be used. It is preferred to mix the sulphides before firing with, for example up to 20 per cent. of white, metallic oxides such as magnesia, thoria, alumina, ceria. or other rare earth or alkaline earth oxides, to obtain the pigments in finely divided condition.
