Abstract

299,573. Becker, A. C. Sept. 13, 1927. Pressure - regulating valves.-A diaphragm-actuated gas governor has one side of the diaphragm exposed to outlet pressure while the other side has one part subject to inlet pressure, a second part subject to outlet pressure and a third part open to the atmosphere. The valve member 30 which co - operates with an adjustable seat 25 has a tubular extension 31 whereby it is secured by a nut 35 to a diaphragm clamped between two parts 5, 11 of the casing. A flexible tubular membrance 36 is secured at one end to the underside of the valve member and at the other end to a flanged ring 28 secured in a flanged opening in a partition 9 formed on a flanged tubular member 8 inserted in the main casing 5. The valve seat is adjustably screwed in a tubular outlet connection 18. screwed into the top of the casing so as to form an external boss to which the outlet pipe 19, 22 is connected. The valve seat is adjusted by inserting a key through an opening provided with a stopper 20 and is secured by a locking ring 26. The valve member is guided by a pin 39 screwed to a bridge 38 on the valve member engaging spiders 27 in the valve seat. The area of the diaphragm subject to inlet pressure is varied by the adjustment of the valve seat whereby the membrane 36 is caused to bulge more or less into contact with the plate 33. The chamber IV is connected to the outlet through a downwardly tapered opening 37 in the valve member and the chamber III is connected to atmosphere through a similar opening 40. The opening 40 is covered by a pipe 41 containing a light loosely fitting bell adapted in the event of an abnormal flow due to puncturing of the diaphragm to close a valve 44 mounted in the top of the pipe 41.
