Abstract

299,236. Malkin, B. A. Jan. 16, 1928. Driving arrangements. - In a paper drying machine, in which there are two sets of rolls carrying an upper and lower felt, each pair of adjacent upper and lower rolls is driven by a motor by suitable gearing. The motors 21, Fig. 1, are mounted on a plate on the frame 11. The armature shaft 23 has coupled to it at each end a shaft 25 carried in bearings 26, and driving the shafts 16, 17 of the upper and lower rolls 12, 13, through bevel gears 27, 28. An oil-tight casing 29 may surround the gears. The gearing employed may be either spur or worm gearing. The motors may be arranged to run independently of one another or may be connected to a common controlling device.
