Impact pulverizers. - A coal pulverizer comprises a pair of machines combined together to form a unit, the machines being arranged back to back and provided with a common driving- shaft. The two machines may be detachably mounted on a common base-plate which may be adapted to carry a driving-motor and reducing- mechanism. As shown, two pulverizing-machines 4 arranged back to back are bolted to the ends 3 of the base-plate 2 so that the fan casings 5 are easily accessible. The common driving-shaft 6 may be driven through gearing 8 from an electric motor supported on an extension 7 of the base-plate 2. Preferably a single feeding- device delivering through a central aperture 9 is provided for both machines; but separate feeding-devices with independent control and adjustment may be used. The shaft 6 may be in sections with intermediate clutches between the central portion carrying the opening and each machine, so that either machine can be stopped. Two units may be combined to form a single machine with their base-plates 2 arranged parallel and preferably connected to form a single base-plate of rectangular or H-shape, the intermediate portion forming a support for the driving-mechanism.
