Abstract

299,098. Dicker, S. G. S., (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). July 22, 1927. Vacuum tubes.-A thermionic rectifier, particularly for Rontgen-ray apparatus, has a metal member surrounding the cathode, insulated from the electrodes, and forming part of the container so as to prevent light from emerging. As shown, a ferrochrome cylinder 9 sealed to glass tubes 7, 8, surrounds the cathode 1 and anode 6. The glass tubes may be surrounded by cylinders 11, 12 of insulating material such as that known by the Registered Trade Mark, Bakelite, the cylinder 9 being surrounded by a copper cylinder 10 with interposed supports 18. The outer casing ensures that any Rontgen-rays produced in the rectifier are prevented from emerging. Metal hoods 13, 14 are mounted on the casing, the hood 14 being secured to the cooling tube 15 for the anode. Screens 16, 17 may be provided inside the container. According to the Provisional Specification the shielding member surrounding the cathode may be mounted inside the container.
