Abstract
486,244. Discharge apparatus. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., and MEGAW, E. C. S. April 1, 1937, No. 9293. [Class 39 (i)] A device for generating high-frequency oscillations, in which the anode does not form part of the envelope, has an envelope formed partly of highly conducting metal, and partly of insulating material which is shielded from deposit of material evaporated from the anode by one or more baffles of highly conducting metal. As shown, the envelope of a split-anode magnetron comprises a copper portion 1 and a glass portion 2, and a copper baffle 6 secured to one cathode lead 5 and spaced from the other by a ceramic collar 7 protects the glass portion from deposition of material from the graphite anodes 3. The baffle 6 and metal portion 1 may be at a negative potential. The metal portion 1 may be air- or liquid-cooled.
