Abstract

Separating by gravity.-In apparatus for separating liquids of different densities, e.g. oil and water, means are provided for decreasing the rate of flow of the mixture on its way to the separating vessel. The mixture is supplied through branching pipes or a junction box M, and through cones E to the first part A of the separating tank. It passes under a baffle B into the second part F, which is provided with outlet cones and an outlet junction box N. Lighter liquid separating under the baffle B and in the part F passes through valves P, Q to join that. separated in the part A. A float R controls the discharge valve for the lighter liquid. The apparatus may be built into a ship, or the double bottom of a ship may be, adapted for use as a separator.
