Abstract

Cauldrons. - Relates to portable tar-boiling apparatus of the kind in which a tar receiver 15 has a curved heating surface forming a division over which the tar passes in a thin stream from a cold compartment to a hot one, the furnace, 16 being provided with smoke flues 30 to heat the tar in the receiver. According to the invention, each smoke flue is jointed to the end wall 31 of the receiver below the level of tar in the receiver, and rises towards the furnace to prevent tar, which may leak through a joint, passing back to the furnace. Further, the joints are readily accessible from the exterior of the apparatus through doors 32. In the form of tar heater shown, a tar boiler 13 is fed by a pump 22 with tar from the receiver 15 and the smoke-box 25, 26 of the receiver is situated below the tar boiler, the furnace 14 of which leads bv flues 28 and passage 29 to a common uptake 21. The smoke flues 30 have their highest parts above the tar level and form a grid for premelting solid tar.
