Abstract

296,991. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. Sept. 10, 1927, [Convention date]. Coating-compositions.-Oil paints and varnishes contain a small proportion of a monobasic hydroxy acid having a constitution denoted by R<1>- CHOR-COOH, where, R and R<1> denote a hydrogen atom, an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group, or a salt or ester of such acid. Suitable acids are glycollic, phenoxyl acetic and cresoxyl acetic acids. The acids, &c. are dissolved in heated polymerized linseed oil. Drier and thinner are added and the mixture is ground with zinc white.
