296,796. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). April 9, 1927. Plastic compositions containing cellulose esters and ethers.-Plasters, putties, knifing and filler compositions and lacquers comprise a cellulose ester or ether, a solvent, and graphite or talc or a mixture of these fillers with each other or with other fillers such as mica, asbestos, slagwool, lithopone, white lead, ground slate, and the like, the weight of the filling material being at least three times the weight of the cellulose derivative. The compositions may also contain plasticizing agents, lacquers, resins, and inorganic or organic colouring matter. The ingredients are intimately mixed, preferably by rolling. Examples of cellulose derivatives are nitrocellulose and acetyl cellulose. Plasticizing agents and solvents mentioned in examples are phthalic acid diethyl ester, phthalic acid di-n-butyl ester, tricresylphosphate, triphenylphosphate, glycol monethyl ether, butyl acetate, butyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol, ethyl acetate, acetone, toluene and alcohol. Resins mentioned are colophony, ester resin derived from colophony, copal and a condensation product of urea and formaldehyde. Specifications 247,288 and 293,485 are referred to.
