Abstract

295,430. Crowe, P. L. May 11, 1927. Magnetic separators. -In apparatus for grinding and separating ores, coal, &c. of the kind comprising a hollow rotary grinding member through apertures in which the finely divided material is withdrawn by pneumatic means, the hollow grinding- member consists of a number of rings 8, each having a number of apertures 21, and the rings being magnetized to separate iron and steel from the materials being ground. The coal &c. is fed into the top of the apparatus and downwardly through a hopper defined by the side walls 30, 32 of a plate 26 and the wall 29 of a plate 25. Grinding takes place between the rings 8 and the lower ends of the plates 29, 31, the fine material being drawn by fan blades through the apertures 21 to the delivery point. The larger particles are deposited on one side of a partition 5, and any iron &c. scrap adhering to the rings 8 is deposited on the other side of the partition.
