Abstract

Hubs; suspension spoke wheels.-A hub for a detachable wire-spoked wheel is formed from a sheet-metal blank of substantially uniform thickness by pressing &c. to produce a cylindrical barrel portion penetrated by the spokes, and an outwardly-extending end flange, or series of lugs, of just sufficient size to take the bolts or other fastening-devices. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the hub is produced from a square blank a the corners of which form lugs with holes a<1> for the securing-means, a coned portion c being provided between the lugs and the hub-barrel b. The outer end of the hub is threaded to take a cap f. As shown in Fig. 1, the inner ends of the spokes are arranged to give access to the securing- devices. In this form, both sets of spokes A, BC, D are shown connected to the rim g near its outer edge. In the modification shown in Figs. 5 and 6, the hub is formed from a hexagonal blank the bolt holes as are formed with flanges a<6> and the metal cupped at a<7> to facilitate access to the securing-devices. The outer end of the hub is formed with an inturned flange having a shouldered edge to receive a plain closing-device. In this form, the inner set of spokes A, B are shown connected to the middle of the rim.
