Abstract

294,277. Hagg, A. E. April 21, 1927. Opening tops.-In saloon and like vehicles sliding roofs are provided by cutting an aperture in the existing fixed roof, securing on each side of the aperture runners extending fore and aft and securing complementary runners to a sliding roof part in such a. position that they will engage with those secured to the margins of the aperture fixed roof. As shown the roof aperture is bordered by runners 14, 15 having preferably tapered grooves or channels on their outer faces into which grooves project ribs on the runners 16 secured to the underside of the sliding roof portion, a packing of felt, &c. 17 may be secured to the ribs. To ensure closure at the front and rear edges similar grooves and ribs are provided on cross battens secured to the fixed and sliding portions respectively. Longitudinal channels may be provided on the upper surfaces of the runners 14, 15 to carry off any rain which may enter.
