Abstract

294,260. Seignol, E. July 21, 1927, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors. - In carburetting-apparatus wherein fuel has to be lifted by suction to the atomizing point, means are provided to ensure substantial constancy in the height through which the fuel is lifted, notwithstanding considerable variations of level in the main supply tank. Atomizing devices comprising Venturi tubes 9. 10 for normal and 9<a>, 10<a> for slow speed running are carried in a block mounted on the top of the main fuel tank 2. The throats of the Venturi tubes communicate through chambers 8, 8<a> and tubes 7, 7<a> respectively with the bottom of a chamber 1, a float 4 in which actuates a valve 5 for controlling the communication between the chamber and the main tank. The top of the chamber is open to the atmosphere through a pipe 6. The float maintains the fuel at a constant level N<1> and therefore the lift in the tubes 7, 7a is constant until the level N<1> varies, but even in that event the variations in lift will be relatively small since, by using a large float placed near the bottom of the main tank, the height h of the level N<1> will be small. The rich mixture for slow running is conducted through a tube 13 to a bye-pass 14 having an air inlet 16. The rich mixture for normal running is conducted through a tube 11 to the throat of a Venturi 12 in a secondary carburetting device to which air is admitted through a port 17 controlled by a spring-loaded sector valve 18 to a disc 20 on which suction is transmitted through a conduit 23, 22.
