Fusible cut-outs.-A fuse in which the wire extends between contacts b<1>, b<2> and is enclosed between the base a and carrier b has explosion chambers f<1>, f<2>. f<3> surrounding the wire and formed in a relatively soft material e, f such as cement or a mouldable asbestos compound. The material is filled into recesses in the porcelain &c. carrier and base, and grips the wire so as to prevent arcing or burning of the contacts when the fuse blows, vent openings h being provided in the base, or spaces between the sides of the cement &c. the carrier b being narrower than the base a. Grooves may be formed in the material for the wire to pass through. The wire may be given a coiled or zigzag form in the chambers.
