Abstract

Field-glasses.-To prevent the deposit of moisture on the interior and optical surfaces of binoculars the casing a is made of airtight material and is closed at both ends by covers c, d applied under pressure so that the lead rings f constitute an air-tight seal. The covers c, d are retained by screwed rings g, h. A seating b is provided for the prisms. The upper plate c is provided with a. mounting i for the eyepieces and a glass plate j is set therein hermetically. Similarly air-tightness is secured at the objective end by mounting the objective q in a ring held in a recess by a nut t and adjusted by screws u. The space v is filled by a paste such as wax. The eyepiece is mounted in a tube m encased in a focusing cylinder l and fitted with a cup n which may be removed to enable the outside surfaces of the eyepiece lenses and the glass plate j to be cleaned.
